Drawings – The Seagoing Years – 1990s
Long watches on a ship or barge can be boring, so one day I picked up my pencil again and started drawing.
My inspiration for most portraits was Empire Magazine, which for some reason was on most ships I went on.
Other drawings are of places I went to or sailed past.
Portrait 1 – Robert Regan US President- pencil drawing – 1990s
My first attempt was Ronald Regan. Not sure about the ‘My Hero’, I think he was hailed as such at the time.
Portrait 2 – unknown woman – pencil drawing – 1990s
Sometimes guys on the ships would see me drawing and ask for pictures of their wives or girlfriends. I did a few of these but only managed to scan some before the guy took the original. Sometimes the image I had to work from was like passport size and not framed very well.

Actor Pierce Brosnan and actress Rosamund Pike. Movie “Die Another Day”
Portrait 19 – Leonardo de Caprio and Kate Winslet – pencil drawing – 1990s

Self Portrait
One ship I was on had a strange bathroom cupboard. The hinge was in the middle so I was able to get two mirrors at right angles to each other.
